Going back to the high school calculus, I believe “perfection in design” is an asymptote. It’s always in the state of converging to perfection but never gets there. There are always ways to make it better.
About the popping ideas in your head to make your designs better is a sign that you are learning as a designer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at my past work and have been totally embarrassed about it.
But whenever the feeling of “What was I thinking when I was designing this” strikes me, I try to find the silver lining that at least I’m growing and learning new things to find ways to make my work better.
