I agree that there could be varying length and that’s what I was suggesting that we(as designers) need to understand the data aspect of what we are designing.

Like I mentioned in the article, If we were to understand, may be, 3 types of data patterns, our designs would come out much closer to reality. Here are the things that you can think about while designing e-commerce product pages(you could do this with any of the other designs as well) -

  1. What’s the minimum description of a product?
  2. How would the space around collapse if there isn’t a product description?
  3. What’s the maximum size of the product description? Once the data overflows, would the design show ellipsis or a “Read More” link?

You just need to create these 3 variations of your design and you would cover practically all the scenarios.
